The Boardman Township Road Department’s 2017 Resurfacing Project will get underway on September 6.

This is a joint project undertaken with Austintown and Canfield Townships, which has resulted in a savings of construction costs. The firm of Butch & McCree was awarded the contract for the resurfacing.

Residents in affected areas will be notified of specific project dates. Parking on the street will be prohibited during the resurfacing.

The entire project is expected to be completed within 45 days. The 4.6 miles of roads in the township to be resurfaced are:

Police and law enforcement officials from several area jurisdictions showed their support for incoming Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth at a media event on June 30, 2017. Mr. Werth will assume the duties of Chief of Police for Boardman upon the retirement of current chief Jack Nichols in January 2018.

Boardman Township Trustees have announced that Todd D. Werth has been selected as the township’s next Police Chief. Werth will assume his duties in January of 2018 following the retirement of the township’s current Police Chief, Jack Nichols.

Since May of 2013, Todd Werth has served as Supervisory Senior Resident Agent for the Youngstown office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He is responsible for leading and supervising the the office, which covers Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties. Personnel under his supervision include Special Agent investigators, Professional Support Staff and local law enforcement Task Force Officers.

Werth also manages and oversees sensitive investigations conducted in the areas of Violent Crime, Drugs, Gangs, Organized Crime, Public Corruption, White Collar Crime, Domestic and International Terrorism matters, and other violations of federal, state and local laws. He is responsible for ensuring all investigative, intelligence and operational actions are conducted in accordance with Department of Justice and FBI policies, as well as State and Federal laws.

Previoiusly, Werth was Cleveland FBI Training Coordinator from 2009 to 2013 and an FBI Special Agent from 1997 to 2009. He holds numerous FBI certifications including Tactical Instructor; Police Instructor; Firearms Instructor; and Adjunct Faculty Instructor in Crisis Management, Active Shooter and Criminal Investigations.

Werth is a member of several professional organizations, including the Mahoning Valley Chiefs of Police Association, Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown. He is the recipient of the FBI Director’s High Impact Leadership Award and the FBI Master Instructor Award.

Todd Werth is a U.S. Army veteran and has lived in Boardman for the past 19 years with his wife and two children.

A reminder to residents that parking on the grass in any district is prohibited. All vehicles should be parked on a hard surface. Junk vehicles, vehicles without current plates, or abandoned vehicles should be kept out of sight in a garage or off-premises in order to keep the neighborhood free from the issues that come along with junk and debris.

Boardman Township also has a parking resolution that lists which streets allow parking, no parking, or just parking on one side. Anyone with any questions about their street is encouraged to call the Zoning office at 330-726-4181. The Zoning Office frequently fields calls about garage sale signs, and garage sales in general. Here is some basic information about what is permitted in the Boardman Township Zoning Resolution:

• Garage sale signs are permitted only at the property of the garage sale. Placing signs on utility pole or any other way on public property is not permitted.
• Garage sale signs can be no bigger than four square feet.
• All signs should be removed within three days of the dates advertised for the sale.

A zoning permit is not needed for this kind of sign. There is no limit to the number of garage sales a person can have per year, nor is there a limitation on the hours or days permitted. As always, though, it is appreciated when consideration is given for neighbors and the community.

The Youngstown Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, June 4, includes a course that will run through certain neighborhoods in Boardman near the eastern border of Mill Creek Park. For both their safety and the runners’, motorists passing through these neighborhoods are urged to exercise caution during the time of the race, which will be approximately  7:15 a.m. through 9:00 a.m.

This year’s annual Boardman Township Community Day is set for Saturday, June 3 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Government Center, 8299 Market Street.

We’ll have free hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, beverages and water for everyone. Boardman police cars and road equipment will be on display, and kids can get an up-close experience with our fire trucks with “touch-a-truck.”

Community Day activities will also take place at the historic Southern Park Stables. Free wagon rides will be available from the Government Center to the Stables, where there will be horses, llamas and a petting zoo.

 

Sealed proposals are being accepted by the Boards of Austintown, Boardman and Canfield Township Trustees for the 2017 Crack Sealing Project for Boardman Roads. Bids must be submitted to the Boardman Road Department, 8299 Market St. in Boardman, by Monday, May 22 at 12:00 pm EDT.
