Boardman Township Fire Dept. Launches Ambulance Service
The Boardman Township Fire Department is pleased to announce the launch of its own ambulance service, beginning in January 2024. This new service aims to enhance emergency medical services in the community, alleviating strain on private ambulance companies and facilitating mutual aid with surrounding areas.
The decision to launch an in-house ambulance service follows several months of planning and discussion. “This new service will act as a safety net for emergency calls, reducing response times supporting both ambulance and fire personnel, and ultimately improving health outcomes for our residents,” said Boardman Fire Chief Mark Pitzer.
Why the change? “This valued service will provide additional protection to our Boardman residents and visitors to our community”, stated Boardman Township Chairman Tom Costello.
In addition, Boardman Professional Firefighters IAFF1176 President, Brian Hallquist said that they are “committed to providing the highest level of public service to the residents and visitors of Boardman Township.”
The Boardman Fire Department ambulance service will operate 24/7, providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) care. This service will significantly enhance the Township’s emergency response capabilities, improving access to critical care for residents in their time of need.
If anyone would like any additional details about the new ambulance service or would like to learn more about this important addition to Boardman’s emergency response system, please contact Fire Chief Mark Pitzer.*

Boardman Township Announces New Fixed Rate for Natural Gas Aggregation Program
Boardman Township officials are pleased to announce that they have established a 12-month fixed rate of $3.96 per Mcf for natural gas for program members. The new rate will run through the October 2024 billing cycle. Residents and small commercial customers can expect a letter from IGS Energy to arrive on the week of September 18th. The letter will explain the rate, terms, and conditions of the offer. The natural gas program was approved by voters in May 2009 and is available for residents and small businesses in the Township.
Township Administrator Jason Loree said, “We are pleased to make this rate available for our residents and small businesses. The fixed rate will give them price protection and budget stability for the next year. As before, our program has no early termination fee.”
Eric Burns, Director of Aggregation of Independent Energy Consultants, said, “Residents and businesses should carefully read their letter from IGS Energy. Residents who are currently participating in the program will receive an “opt-out”, and do not need to take any action to remain in the program. Residents who have not chosen a supplier and receive their gas supply from Dominion Energy Ohio will also receive an “opt-out” letter. If they wish to be added to the program, they should simply do nothing and they will automatically receive the new rate.”
We would like to remind you that the aggregation program is simply another option for you to consider, and it is important that you make yourself aware of the other options available to you, specifically:
- The Public Utility Commission of Ohio provides a list of other publicly available offers on their website, energychoice.ohio.gov. Anyone considering those supply offers should be aware of any early termination penalties, fixed monthly charges, or automatic renewal provisions that can quickly offset any perceived savings. Our program includes none of the above.
- The utility’s supply rate the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) is a variable rate option. It follows monthly market conditions and trends up and down throughout the year.
Again, we would like to remind people that the program is simply another option for our residents and small businesses to consider in their efforts to manage their energy costs.

The Township is pleased to have made this program possible but asks that you do not call the Township offices. They are not equipped to handle a large volume of calls. Residents should contact IGS Energy toll free at 1-877-353-0162 if they have any questions.
