A firefighter is called upon to alleviate conditions that are causing harm to persons or damage to property or the environment. There is a satisfaction in knowing that you have made a situation better.<\/p>\n
REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING A BOARDMAN FIREFIGHTER<\/strong><\/p>\n To be hired as a firefighter in Boardman Township you must be 18 years old and a high school graduate. The Civil Service Commission will offer a test to the public for the ability to become an entry-level firefighter. The test is a general knowledge exam that is proctored by the Civil Service Commission.<\/p>\n If you pass the written exam, you will be invited to participate in a physical agility test. You will go through numerous stations that test your strength and endurance and physical ability to perform as a firefighter. Only those who pass will be ranked in order based on his or her test scores.<\/p>\n The Township Trustees then begin a hiring process by interviewing the candidates in order, based on the rules of the Civil Service Commission. If you are lucky enough and pass through the interview process, you may become a Boardman firefighter.<\/p>\n If you don’t have all of these credentials when you apply, you’ll be required to take a 240-hour basic firefighting training as well as an Emergency Medical Technician-First Responder course within a year of being hired.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
