{"id":108,"date":"2012-09-21T17:45:07","date_gmt":"2012-09-21T21:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/?page_id=108"},"modified":"2021-03-26T10:38:32","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T14:38:32","slug":"adults-and-senior-fire-safety-tips","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/education-and-safety\/adults-and-senior-fire-safety-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Adults and Senior Fire Safety Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each year approximately 1,100 Americans age 65 and older die as a result of a home fire.<\/p>\n<p>Comparing these numbers to the rest of the population:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People between 65 and 74 are nearly TWICE as likely to die in a fire.<\/li>\n<li>People between 75 and 84 are nearly FOUR times as likely to die in a fire.<\/li>\n<li>People 85 and older are more than FIVE times as likely to die in a fire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Civilian Fire Death Rate Chart<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/files\/2012\/09\/image002.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-154\" title=\"image002\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/files\/2012\/09\/image002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"538\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/files\/2012\/09\/image002.jpg 672w, https:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/files\/2012\/09\/image002-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By following a few fire safety tips, adults and seniors can dramatically reduce their risk of injury or death from a fire.<\/p>\n<p>The Boardman Fire Department Bureau of Fire Prevention and Education would like to announce our support and cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), a division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in developing a fire safety program for adults and seniors in the community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardmantwp.com\/fire\/files\/2012\/09\/ELDERLY-BROC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elderly Fire Safety Brochure<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The intent of the program is to review the steps required to make homes fire-safe and remind people of fire-safe behaviors.<\/p>\n<p>The program offered by the Boardman Fire Department will be tailored to meet the needs of your group or organization.\u00a0The program includes a PowerPoint presentation to help reinforce the information.<\/p>\n<p>Items that will be covered will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cooking safety<\/li>\n<li>Heaters and fireplaces<\/li>\n<li>Smoking<\/li>\n<li>Electrical safety<\/li>\n<li>Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers<\/li>\n<li>Carbon monoxide<\/li>\n<li>Question and answer session<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you would like to schedule a fire safety lecture, or if you\u2019d just like more information, please contact the Bureau of Fire Prevention and Education at 330.729.9535 or email us at <a href=\"mailto:fpo@boardmantwp.com\">fpo@boardmantwp.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each year approximately 1,100 Americans age 65 and older die as a result of a home fire.
