Kathy Miller
I grew up in Poland and
was the oldest of the eight children of the late Ken & Lois Mitchell. My
father was a home builder, developer and a small business owner. We always worked in the family business
which led me to get my degree in Commerce & Business Administration from Ohio
State University.
When I started my real estate career I was the youngest Realtor in the area,
and first agent to earn the GRI designation in the Mahoning Valley. In 1975, I
formed Brighton Realty and in 1976 became one of the first Ohio franchisees
for Century 21. Due to hard work and wonderful agents, Century 21 Brighton
Realty quickly became an award winning office in the Century 21 system where I
served on numerous state and national franchise committees. In 1978, I was
president of the Youngstown Area Board of Realtors and their 1,300 members. I
was instrumental in developing the original Multiple Listing Service in
Youngstown. In 1993, Century 21 Brighton Realty merged with Century 21 Millcreek where I was the General Manager until 1998. Retirement was short,
and I worked for several years in sales, mergers and acquisitions at Howard
Hanna Real Estate. I now am the owner of Rightplacerealty.com which is an
internet based real estate firm. My professional career has been in the real
estate industry, insurance, finance, and appraising.
I have been married to John Miller for 36 years and have three sons. I have
served on the Board of Easter Seals for many years, and past president of the
Angels of Easter Seals. One hobby involves attending car shows with my
original 1964 ½ Mustang which has won three national awards.
In 2001, I was elected a Boardman Township Trustee where my job is to
represent the interests of 43,000 residents, commercial and retail business
owners. It has been my goal to preserve and protect the property values of our
community through conscientious and accountable public service.
To understand my responsibilities and provide better public service for the
township residents, I went back to school for a Master’s in Public
Administration. In August 2004, I finished my MPA degree from the Maxine Levin
School of Urban Studies at Cleveland State University. It was a challenging
opportunity to learn more about public management. It included courses in
strategic planning, public finance, organizational behavior, labor relations,
microeconomics, negotiations, and statistical analysis.
Boardman Township is the 10th largest township in Ohio and a regional shopping
district where our daytime population can reach 100,000. We also have the
distinction of having a huge number of traffic accidents on route 224. In an
effort to minimize the congestion and accidents, we are currently working with
the Eastgate Regional Council of Government to collect community input on ways
to improve route 224.
During the past 17 months issues regarding the mitigation of flooding in our
township through establishing a storm water management district have been a
focus for me. With new commissioners in Mahoning County, I am hopeful that we
can begin to address the regional issues we have regarding flooding and storm
water management.
