Babysitters Fire Safety Course
The Boardman Fire Prevention Bureau conducts a fire safety course with information directed specifically to the needs of babysitters.
In brief, the course touches on the classification of fires, how to use fire extinguishers, and how to decide if you should stay and fight a fire or get out and stay out. There is also instruction on kitchen and cooking fire safety and what hazards to look for when using kitchen appliances.
We also discuss how to take a mental inventory of fire and life safety devices in the babysitter’s new surroundings. The importance of calling 911 immediately via cell or landline phone in the event of an emergency is stressed. And we teach them to look for smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors, locate fire extinguishers and plan an escape route if a fire breaks out.
